“Learn from my mistake”: Mum’s warning about nursery trend

Share it

When scrolling through Instagram for nursery inspiration, it’s very likely you’ll come across an image of a cot with cute pictures hanging above it.

Although adorable, one mum’s warning will make you think twice before copying this trend yourself.

“When my mum pointed out maybe I shouldn’t have frames above my baby’s cot I just thought of all the Instagram nursery inspo pictures I’d seen and thought that she was being irrational,” the woman writes in her post to Mumsnet.

“At some point last night/this morning my toddler either pulled down a print or it fell down,” she continues.

“We woke up this morning to screaming from the baby monitor, pulled the covers back to find broken glass everywhere, the frame and blood on the mattress. Cuts to four fingers on one hand, two on the other, the palms of the hands, cheeks, belly.

“I’ve cried all day, been to A&E, we’re home now and I’m feeling like the worst mum in the world. Please learn from my mistakes, it could of been so much worse.”

‘Don’t be so hard on yourself’

Lots of parents were quick to remind the mum that it could happen to anyone, telling her not to beat herself up about it.

“Don’t beat yourself up,” wrote one mum.

Another added: “Don’t stress now, your child will recover quickly and likely not have any damage. Plenty of cuddles and some hot tea for you.”

Others thanked the mum for sharing her story and warning others.

“Sorry to hear your little one got hurt. I think it’s very good of you to share your story here for the benefit of others. I shall pass the message on to mum groups I’m in,” one person said.

“Ah op I’ve just been looking at framed prints to put over the wall in my son’s room but now I’m going to get a soft canvas print instead (he’s 5 but could fall down so def changing my mind!).”

‘Accidents happen’

Some parents shared similar stories, reminding us all that accidents do happen.

“Accidents happen op. All the time. DC 2 was in the kitchen with his dad when he was 2 and knocked a just boiled mug of water all over himself. He suffered 3rd degree burns. No one was at fault it was a complete freak accident,” shares one parent.

“Hope your little one is okay now and you shouldn’t blame yourself. We had a glass frame up on the wall next to the bed and one night in the middle of the night it fell down and smashed everywhere next to the cot,” another writes.

“I hate the insta worthy nursery pics with photos above a babies cot it always makes me feel nervous now.”
