A midwife’s plea to pregnant woman about pubic hair

Pubic hair is completely natural and definitely not something to be ashamed of.

Despite this, the thought of having it removed still crosses the mind of most women before giving birth.

Taking to Reddit, a midwife has spoken out about this very hairy topic to provide some reassurance for mums-to-be who might be feeling a little self-conscious down there.

“We don’t care if you’re full bush”

“Please don’t worry about pubic hair. We don’t even notice as long as you have showered in the last week,” she writes.

“As long as the baby can come out, we don’t care if you’re full bush, bald as a baby, or something exciting like a lightning bolt/vajazzled. I don’t even notice any more.”

In the lead up to your baby’s birth, you have more important things to think about than your pubic hair, like getting your healthy baby earthside.

No one will notice

“Please don’t get yourself into an uncomfortable position trying to do something for us, because we won’t even notice. It’s like getting your hair done and your husband/friends not even noticing,” she adds.

The same goes if you have a caesarean section.

“It doesn’t affect stitches or anything to do with our work. If you have a c-section we can shave the important part for you with a sterile razor,” she says.

In the comments, an ob-gyn chimed in saying they agreed 100%.

“As an ob/gyn – 100% agreed. And it’s not only pubic hair… haemorrhoids, interesting tattoos and piercings in your nether areas… anyone who’s been delivering babies for a few years has seen it all. Aside from safety and some basic hygiene, it really doesn’t bother us,” they said.

“This is mildly relieving”

In response to the post, women everywhere breathed out a collective sigh of relief.

“As someone whose starting to lose sight of my nether regions without some serious contortions, this is mildly reliving,” said one mum-to-be.

Another said, “I couldn’t see my pubic area anymore once I hit about 34 weeks. So when I was told my induction was getting moved up from 37+3 to 36+5, I had my boyfriend shave me. As I can now see, he missed a few spots, but it was sweet of him to do it.”

It’s the socks they really care about

While pubic hair is very welcome in the delivery room, a nurse practitioner said it’s the dirty socks she can’t handle.

“I don’t care about shaving, but clean socks are always appreciated.”

So, ladies, step away from the razor and purchase a comfy pair of clean socks instead!
