Definitely get the tray if your getting the seat. It's handy to have to place things on for baby however it is fiddly to put on but once you get it on correctly it isn't coming off easy which is sometimes another problem in itself! The tray isn't the best design for storing or traveling though.

Oh these play tray things just drive me insane sometimes. I cannot get the thing to stay on which is super frustrating and wastes my time. My child would be eating something on it and it would just fall off the bumbo and the food would end up on the floor. I feel it's just a waste of money.

If you are going to spend the money on the bumbo floor seat, then you may aswell spend on the tray.
I found the bumbo in itself useless without tray.
My boy, loved playing with toys, eating snacks and banging things on the tray, especially when I was cooking and he’d watch.
The tray is the best part of the bumbo in my opinion.
A little flimsy and difficult to attach to the bumbo,
Found it can break quite easily if dropped, but otherwise okay.
