A new video shared on TikTok will make you think twice about buying your baby more toys.
Posted by Tiffany Aufmann, the mum demonstrates five times over why baby’s don’t need toys.
Conducting her own experiment, Tiffany places household items and toys in front of her baby to see which one he prefers, and the results probably won’t surprise you.

First up, Tiffany places an onion beside a toy camera. Of course, the baby goes for the onion. Who wouldn’t!
Next up is the tissue box and stacking rings. Tissues win, of course!
Bringing out the big guns, the mum places Toy Story toys down alongside a spatula. It turns out a spatula is way more attractive to a baby that Toy Story figurines. Go figure.
A favourite stuffed toy is no match for a used roll of toilet paper either.
Lastly, Tiffany puts Buzz Lightyear down for it to be defeated by the remote control.
The video has received over 424k likes so far with many parents saying they can relate.
“That wasn’t fair to Buzz,” said one commenter. “He didn’t stand a chance against the remote.” And we have to agree.
Another parent added: “My son has played with potatoes since he was one.”
Similarly, one mum said, “Our two year old carried one onion around for days. We went to the fair with it and everything. She treated the roots like hairs. So dang cute.”
“My 7-month-old is sitting on the floor right now surrounded by his toys but playing with the bucket his toys go in and a hairbrush,” another added.
As one viewer pointed out, kids are attracted to shiny new things they’ve never seen before, even if they are far from being shiny and new (hello toilet paper roll).
“They just like things that are new to them,” they said. “Would love to see you try with a brand new toy they’ve never seen before.”
Kids, hey.
