How to make money renting out your unused baby items

Renting baby products

Do you have pre-loved baby equipment sitting in the garage collecting dust? Perhaps it was on your never-ending to-do list to sell. Or maybe you’re just not ready to part with them yet.

The good news is you don’t have to. There’s now a way to put your unused baby items to work and make some extra money renting them out to other parents.

Sounds too good to be true, right? (Don’t worry — it’s not.)

Tree Hut Village

Tree Hut Villiage is an Australian parent-to-parent community that provides a secure and reliable way to rent baby equipment — basically the Airbnb of baby-related items.

As any parent will tell you, travelling with small children is no easy feat. Despite being very tiny, children actually require a lot of stuff. That’s where you come in.

Instead of having to lug bulky prams and carriers on planes, trains and automobiles, parents can now hire what they need in the city they’re headed to from other parents. It’s a win-win!

Prams, rockers and breast pumps, oh my!

Prams and baby carriers aren’t the only items you can rent. A quick look at the website shows breast pumps, travel cots, rockers and toys listed, too! It’s the side hustle you’ve been waiting for.

On the other hand, if you’re mulling over a big baby purchase Tree Hut Village gives you the opportunity to try before you buy. (Once you’ve made your decision, head over to our shop to buy and earn points.) Hiring products is also a great way to reduce waste and increase the lifespan of an item before it’s thrown away – something that has become front of mind for many Australian parents.

Importantly, if you’re worried about your products being stolen or damaged, Tree Hut Village says they’ve got you covered for those worst-case scenarios.

How it works

All you have to do is sign up to Tree Hut Village and upload images of the items you want to rent out, along with any relevant details.

You choose who you want to lend items too and where to meet. Alternatively, there’s an option for auto-approval for those who just want their items rented out without having to closely monitor their account.

Once the payment is processed, you can arrange to lend out your equipment. And your money will hit your account 24 hours after the first day of the rental period agreed to.

Go forth and hustle!

Eva is the founder of Tree Hut Village-a peer to peer platform for renting and lending baby equipment. Since its inception in 2017, the website has made it possible for thousands of parents to become mini-entrepreneurs using their own baby gear. Others benefited from being able to rent locally for an upcoming family trip or to try a big-ticket item before committing to a purchase. Tree Hut Village has also recently expanded to New Zealand.
