A new Emma Wiggle costume has caused a stir online.
The Wiggles released new Emma Wiggle costumes that include pants for girls, but the announcement has left parents asking why there isn’t a tutu for boys.
“We listened! We have had so many requests for an Emma Wiggle costume with pants!” a post shared on The Wiggles Instagram page says.
“Thanks to our friends at Rubies – it is now available! Everyone can dress up just like Emma! Bowtiful!
“Emma Wiggles deluxe costume with pants is now available at Costume Super Centre Australia & coming soon to BIG W, & Costume Box!”
The post also features an image of kids dressed up in the new Emma Wiggle costumes.
But the problem, according to some parents, is that there aren’t any boys dressed in tutus.
“Diversifying your images is great. Making images of diverse children small is not so great. Hope to see your attempts next time are a bit more inclusive,” one person commented.
Another said: “But let’s be clear, boys can wear tutus too.”
“My son loves Emma, so he wears the dress. Why on earth wouldn’t other boys do that, the skirt is what Emma wears. It’s clothing it shouldn’t be that big of a deal, and if you make it, then you’re not teaching acceptance,” another added.
But not everyone has a problem with The Wiggles’ new marketing material.
“There are bigger issues ppl. Buy the dress if your BOY wants to wear it,” one person said.
Another said, “I’m sorry you’re receiving backlash. Boys can buy the tutu that the girls are wearing and wear them. You guys are doing great.”
On the other hand, many parents were happy about the release of an Emma Wiggle costume with pants.
“Not all boys are actually comfortable in skirts. My son asked me for an Elsa costume so of course, I got it for him but when it arrived, he didn’t want to try it on. I encouraged him to give it a try as he really wanted the costume, but he asked me to take it off before it was buttoned up and wasn’t interested in trying it again. So yeah while absolutely no issues with the boys having the skirts they just don’t all feel comfortable in them,” explained one parent.
Another shared, “Oh, this is great. My sons favourite is Emma, but he wouldn’t go as far as wearing a skirt 🤷🏻♀️ , so now he can dress like her.”
“My 3-year-old is going to lose his mind with happiness!” said another parent. “He wanted to be Emma, but he didn’t want to wear a skirt.”
