Expecting a little one this year and looking for baby name inspiration? Look no further.
Nameberry has released their list of top baby name trends for 2021, and we think they’re pretty great.
Of course, you won’t find anything COVID-related on these lists.
As Nameberry says: “This year, we want baby names with charm and armour, those that activate our imaginations and transport us from our dark reality. Anything that remotely reminds us of coronavirus is out – probably for good.” (Plus, there are only so many ‘COVID baby!’ jokes you’d ever want to hear, right?).
Here are three baby name trends (plus 48 names) that Nameberry says parents will turn to this year.
The first baby trend we’re likely to see take off is a push towards magic names.
So what is a magic name? From superheroes to mythical characters and words such as Brave, Noble and Legendary, the interpretation of a “magic name” is completely up to you.
These are the magic names parents may be looking at in 2021.
Cottagecore names are being favoured by parents who are longing to escape their city apartments and move to the countryside. As Nameberry explains, think “vintage and ethereal names rule for girls, while woodsy names are hot for boys.”
Here’s their list of cottagecore names for 2021.
Gender-neutral baby names have been growing in popularity for years, but we’re now seeing those that end in -ari more and more.
And while Namberry says lots of these names are of Japanese or Swahili origins, others are made up by parents looking for something a little different.
Here are the top -ari names for 2021.
