We originally purchased this for the bottom of our stairs but found it too bulky so replaced it with a retractable one. We now use it on some steep stairs on our deck which it works well for. It was easy to install and easy to use. It is weather proof enough for an undercover deck and just gives us piece of mind when our kiddo is playing outside.
