I tried out Tommee Tippee’s Dreamsense smart baby monitor. Inside the box there was the camera, parent pod, instructions, and several types of wall connections. All the items are light weight and with all the types of connections would make it fantastic to take with you if needed when you travel.

Setting up the Dream sense was made super easy as it comes with a step-by-step instruction booklet. This is fantastic for someone who is not very tech savvy like myself. At first like most new tech, it took some getting used to and I was unsure what settings to put at what levels of sensitivity.

The size of the camera and functionality are fantastic. I was able to angle the camera at the angle needed to be able to view the whole cot. This is something I have struggled with previously with other cameras.

On the app you can set reminders on when you want to feed and change your baby and it will send notification to your phone. The app also allows you to speak through the camera and play lullabies to your baby.

You can also set the ranges of temperature, humidity and noise levels that you would like to be notified about. A challenge with this for me was that as a new parent I did not know which settings to put each category on and had to do some googling and trial and error work. I think it would be a good idea if the app had recommended settings for temperatures, humidity and noise as most new parents would probably not know what is needed.

I found the parent pod a little confusing trying to work/ remember what colours and which side meant what. As soon as I understood that one side related to the environment and one to the child. It has become really easy to know what the issue might be. Along with allowing you to hear the sounds that are happening in the room at the time. Having the app on the phone which sends notifications that tell you what the camera has detected, whether it be noise, temperature or light related.

I think my favourite part about this baby monitor is the easy to use and set apps, it gives me piece of mind that my son will be comfortable in his room, and I can monitor his safety without having to physically be in the room. It leaves me time to do other things around the house and relax.

I love that I have set the camera up in his room up stairs and can go down in the kitchen and prepare meals or do washing, whilst still having access to seeing him through the app and the ability to hear if he stirs without having to walk upstairs constantly.

One thing that did differ from previous monitors was that you need to keep the camera plugged in to work, this has not been an issue for us but some people may prefer a cordless use baby monitor.

Compared to other baby monitors, this one does not come with a handheld monitor with a screen. I have not found this to be an issue as you have the reassurance with the parent pod and can access the app easily.
The benefit of having the parent pod as it gives you these indications without having to constantly open or keep the app open on your phone. I have found that the parent pod holds a good charge, whilst keeping the app open on your phone can use the phone battery quicker.

I would rate the Tommee Tippee Dreamsense smart baby monitor a 4.5 out of 5. It has superior quality camera picture than most other baby monitors. It is super easy to set up and along with the parent pod and phone app you can have piece of mind that your precious little one is safe and comfortable, in the room they are in. Freeing parents up to do household chores, or even just relax.
