The Problem With Kids Birthday Parties These Days is a guest post.
Remember when a kid’s birthday party was simple? What happened to that and when did it change?
The days of cocktail franks, fairy bread and sausage rolls seem to be well and truly gone and in its place is extravagant celebrations. And while there is nothing wrong with going all out to celebrate your child’s birthday, there is a problem!
There are certain words that cause prices to impose a higher rate, once they were limited to wedding, engagement and Christmas party. However in recent years it appears venues and suppliers have taken opportunity in the fact parents want nothing but the best for their kids.
Not only do you have to pay the exorbitant costs now associated with kid’s birthday parties, the expectations have also been raised.
Don’t even think about serving bowls of lollies, party pies and cordial. Be prepared to create fruit platter masterpieces, vegetable sticks and homemade dip. Foot for a lolly buffet that is perfectly displayed in glass jars and of course a custom made bakery cake.
And that is before you even think about the actual food you will serve. Or better yet, hire out the indoor playground you frequent for coffee and pay them to do the catering. Just be ready for heavily inflated food and venue fees.
Oh and of course drinks. Let’s not forget the beverages. Gone are the days of juice and cordial. Welcome to the era of milkshakes served in ice-cream cones, babycinos and smoothies. If you are hiring a venue, you can almost guarantee that the regular cost will be amplified, because…. Party!
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to matter whether you are hosting a party at home or a venue, everyone wants an invite. Just in case things weren’t expensive enough already, out of the woodwork comes uncles and aunties that haven’t seen or spoken to the kids in months who are now expecting an invite. And a plus one.
Parents want their child to remember their parties and want to make the day as magical as possible but the rising cost of kids birthday parties is making it less of a simple celebration and more like a once in a lifetime occasion. All because it has ‘birthday’ associated in the event name.
Do you think there’s a problem with kids birthday parties these days?
