So your two-year-old is expecting a dinosaur party to celebrate turning three? It’s all he talks about but you haven’t had the heart to tell him that it’s not happening. (Sob!)
If this is you, you aren’t alone. Many parents are currently wondering what they can do to make their toddler’s day extra special – without leaving the house.
While it’s very sad that the party has to be postponed, there’s one solution making kids smile on their birthday: drive-by birthday parties.
That’s right. According to 7 News, two Perth boys recently celebrated their birthday with a drive-by party and the turnout stopped traffic (literally). Importantly, everyone kept their distance and the boys had a great day.
Now, the trend is catching on and it’s easy to see why.
Speaking to 7 News, a boy name Alby, whose birthday it was, said, “That was great and I was very, very, very happy.”
The key to this is letting everyone know your plan in advance. Pick a time and ask everyone to drive by with handmade signs, honking their horns and maybe even singing happy birthday.
You could even ask a few friends or family members to dress up as dinosaurs if that’s what your child is expecting. Don’t forget to kindly remind everyone to stay in their car and keep driving because … social distancing.
At the agreed time, head out to your driveway (keeping with social distancing rules) and wait for the fun to begin.
See how it works in the video below.
While it’s no fun to have to cancel a kid’s birthday party, we think this is a pretty great way to celebrate. At least until we can all come together and eat again.
