When I had my baby a few weeks early she was such a sleepy baby that she just wouldn’t feed enough. She would get too tired and fall asleep. I started pumping in hospital and would feed my baby a bottle of expressed breast milk. I had already purchased a single electric pump but I knew that I would need a hospital grade double pump for effective and easier pumping when I got home. The ones at the hospital were so expensive, so when I heard about Spectra I was amazed by the affordable price.
I actually purchased the Spectra S2 Breast Pump second hand, but bought all of the accessories and flanges from the spectra online website which was shipped the next day and arrived within a few days. I was very happy with the customer service from the spectra website, they also have videos and social media platforms for help and FAQ.
The pump displays the time you have been pumping for as well.
A con to the Spectra S2 Breast Pump would only be that if I was buying it again I would probably upgrade and buy the S1 which includes the portable battery feature. I was often moving my pump around the house from the lounge room or bedroom so would have been easy to not have to sit next to a power supply. I found the white duck bill valve that came with the flanges would often fall off if they weren’t dried properly (after washing), however you can buy different blue plastic valves that I have found much better, they never fall off.
The Spectra S2 Breast Pump was absolutely worth the money. I was amazed by the price, it retails for $299 which includes the bottles and accessories. Most hospital grade pumps are at least $50 per week! So to me, even if I only used it for a month it felt like a worthwhile purchase. I couldn’t imagine having to exclusively pump with a single pump. I saved so much time double pumping and I found it so much more effective compared to my other single electric pump. Being that it is a closed system, you can safely sell or buy this product second hand, and cost effectively buy all parts that come in contact with breastmilk from the spectra website.
I would definitely recommend the Spectra S2 Breast Pump to people who are planning on or expecting to pump more than once a day. I would advise that you could wait until you had your baby and see if you needed a pump. For example if you baby is born early, or has difficulties pumping. You can get express shipping on the pump, so if you find you need to exclusively pump you can easily and quickly buy the pump. It isn’t really necessary if you are only planning to pump once and awhile (for that I would just recommend a manual pump). If you are planning on going back to work and want to continue feeding I would highly recommend this product. I honestly believe this pump is just as a good as the ones used in hospitals. I think this was my best ever baby purchase.
