A mum has had the surprise of her life after giving birth to a healthy baby boy despite not knowing she was pregnant.

Tasha Davies, 28, gave birth to her son Alexander Isaac Gohan Hern on Tuesday 1 September at 7:30am – not long after she was admitted to hospital for “severe stomach pains”.

No symptoms

The new mum, who has been with her partner Martin for three years, said she didn’t have any symptoms, was still getting her period, and had just put her weight gain down to snacking during COVID-19 lockdown.

“It was just such a mixture of shock and surprise. I didn’t have any morning sickness and experienced no symptoms at all,” Tasha said, according to 7News.

“Right towards the very end, about 24 hours before he came, my belly became really bloated.

“But by then, I was getting severe stomach pains and hadn’t passed water for 24 hours, so we thought there was something really wrong.

“When we arrived at the hospital, the nurses asked about whether I could be pregnant and I said no.

“But then they said they were going to do a test and the possibility started to sink in.”

“We were just in absolute shock when he arrived”

When they first arrived at the hospital, Martin said Tasha was seen by a triage nurse – 15 minutes later he was told she was in labour about to give birth.

“It was so surreal. I went to bed that night thinking I was going to pick up a washer-dryer. Instead, I was going to the hospital to find out I was having a baby boy,” the shocked dad said.

“I’ve been rushing around everywhere to buy things – I’ve got a Moses basket, clothes, nappies, the works.

“The hospital has given us all the packs of information we should have got throughout the nine months – we’ve got a lot of reading to do.”
