Sometimes burping your baby can feel like watching a pot of water and waiting for it to boil – but one mum has a found a great technique that works “99.9% of the time.”
Tay Becker has discovered an almost foolproof way to get her baby to burp, which she shared to TikTok, attracting enormous attention in the process. “It looks ridiculous” says Becker. “But it works awesome”
In her demonstration, Becker says to support your baby’s head and upper back and hold him firmly on your shoulder, making sure you’ve got him ‘nice and tight.’ With her other free hand, she makes a ‘Barbie’ hand, which looks like a ‘C’ and then places it under her baby’s bottom. She then shows how to gently wiggle your baby’s bottom from side to side.
“Holding their heads nice, take their legs, shift back and forth,” she says as she gently moves her baby’s behind like a washing machine, while holding him against her shoulder. “This is a gentle motion. Do not force their legs to shift or move”.

This movement may look a little silly, but from what we see in the video, it works a treat. Becker carries out her demonstration, wiggling her baby until finally, we hear that burp. “There it is!’ she says.
Becker admits that the idea is not her own, rather something she discovered when trying to burp her previous baby. “I didn’t come up with this,” she says. “I found it on YouTube from a chiropractor.”
However, it has been such a success for her that it’s now an accepted member of the household. “In our family we call it the Wiggle butt,” she says. “And it works like 99.9% of the time!”
The post received over 580,000 likes and over 2300 comments with parents jumping to give the manouevre a go. “Omg thank you!! I will be trying this next time. He takes forever to burp,” said one hopeful parent.
Others reported back with having enjoyed the triumph of the elusive burp. “Omg this worked in like 2 seconds. Thank you!” commented on happy mum. Another said, “Whoa I just tried this on my newborn and it worked!” While another made the comment, “You literally saved my life with this. THANK YOU.”
There are hundreds of similar responses, while other soon-to-be mums are looking forward to trying it out when the time comes. One viewer doesn’t even have a baby but couldn’t help watching “in its entirety.”
Personally, even though I’ve well and truly had my babies, I found it delightful and wish I knew about this when I was trying to produce a burp!
At the end of the day, it certainly is music to any parent’s ears. If something works this well, no one minds how crazy it looks to the outside eye. Burping a baby can be tricky, especially when you want your little one to snuggle down for a snooze. Who wouldn’t give the ‘wiggle butt’ a try?
