Despite their size, babies can make a lot of mess – particularly at mealtimes. That’s where a bib comes in. The right bib can reduce the number of times you have to change your baby’s clothes throughout the day – and not just when eating. A bib can be the perfect solution for dribbly babies too.

Shop bibs and covers.

How many bibs will I need?

The number of bibs you need can vary depending on a couple of things, like how messy your baby is at mealtimes, if she’s teething, how much she drools and if she suffers from reflux. Start small, and you’ll know pretty soon if you need to up your bib count.

Types of bibs

There’s a bib for every occasion. Feeding bibs, smocks, bandanas, binkys – all of which are available in a range of patterns and designs to suit every taste. Feeding bibs are more generous to ensure they cover baby’s clothes. Drool bibs are softer and smaller, so they can be worn most of the day to catch spit. Smocks are another option for feeding that covers your child from neck to toe. A bandana bib is the same as a regular bib; however, it is cut into a triangle shape and considered more stylish. Lastly, the binky bib has the option for a dummy to be attached.

Materials

Bibs come in all shapes and sizes made from a variety of materials, like rubber, plastic, cotton and bamboo. The thing to be wary of is the backing that will be resting against your baby. The last thing you want is for the bib to irritate your baby’s skin. Look for something with a towelling or a cotton bamboo backing. Keep in mind that bamboo is very absorbent and considered environmentally friendly.

Cleaning

The whole point of a bib is to catch spills and mess – so it’s going to get dirty. Please read the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning to make sure it’s straightforward (i.e. throwing it in the wash).

Comfort

If your baby isn’t comfortable, meal times will be everyone’s worst nightmare! All your baby will be able to focus on is removing the bib, and definitely not on the food in front of her. Main causes for bib discomfort include being too tight, and material that is irritating the skin around the neck or body.
