The Haakaa Silicone breast pump is a hands-free breast pump that can be used as a milk catcher or pump. While feeding, the Haaka can be attached to the other breast to catch the let-down to store for later. Additionally, the Haakaa website says it can be used to relieve engorged and uncomfortable breasts and draw out your breast milk while you’re away from baby. Once you suction the Haakaa to your breast, it will draw out your milk.

The Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump doesn’t require any manual pumping – it’s completely hands free. Mums say it’s so easy to attach and collect milk. One mum said: “I use these during my first 1-2 feeds of the day and am able to collect up to 150mls a day.” They also love how quiet and discreet the Haakaa is; it’s also the cheaper of the two.
Some parents said they did have trouble attaching the pump at first, but as one reviewer helpfully said: “Make sure you watch a YouTube video about how to correctly attach it to your breast.”
“I used the Haakaa in the early days, caught my let down on one side while bub fed off the other every morning. I had a great supply of milk. Also came in handy when my nipples cracked on one side, I was able to use the Haakaa to manual express milk out, to give that nipple a break from that newborn constant suckle.”

Parents in the TMB community say if you have a good milk supply, the Medela Harmony™ breast hand pump is perfect for expressing when at work or on the go. It’s quiet, easy to use and they love that you can control the pump pressure.
It’s more expensive than the Haakaa. Some mums found it “a little bit tricky” to disassemble and clean.
“I brought this manual pump to have alongside my electric pump so I had the option to express on the go. I love the fact there’s no power cord to worry about, the suction is great! It’s perfect for on the go and easy to wash. I would recommend this to any mum’s that are looking for a good quality manual pump.”
